Contrary to popular belief, spending time together as a couple over the festive season doesn’t have to cost a fortune.

Here are some free things you can do over Christmas, which will cost you absolutely nothing!

Watch Christmas movies

Snuggle up and watch all the classics this Christmas and tuck into free snacks from supermarket cashback apps like CheckoutSmart and Shopmium. Use my Shopmium code KHKCYCEN to signup and get a free pot of Nutella!

Invite friends round

Host a pot luck or movie night at yours, inviting people to bring their own dishes, snacks and booze. This is a fab way to socialise together as a couple without the cost of taxis, drinks and regretful drunken takeaway purchases!

Go to a Christmas light switch on

There are loads of local town and city light switch ons around November. These are packed full of entertainment and really get you in the mood for Christmas.

Take a romantic winter stroll

If you’re not shy of the cold weather, winter is a great time to go on a lovely, romantic walk together. Check out the National Trust website for a nature walk near you.

Visit a Christmas market

Christmas markets are the ultimate way to feel festive in the lead up to Christmas. Explore all the arts and crafts, tuck into free samples and get some great gift inspiration. You don’t have to spend a penny, though you might be tempted to splash out on a glass of mulled wine…

Decorate your tree together

If you live together, decorating your tree is a great free Christmas activity for couples! Use your decorations from previous years or make your own to start a trend.

Check out local attractions

Museums and galleries often have festive-themed exhibitions this time of year, so it’s definitely worth checking them out. Look on your local council’s website for any fun stuff to check out, like reindeer parades. Plus, keep an eye out for free Christmas parking!

Wrap presents & write out cards

Pop on some Christmas tunes, get your wrapping paper out and wrap presents together. Sure, it’s not the most exciting activity, but it’s something you can do together.

If you don’t have wrapping paper or Christmas cards, some cashback sites offer freebies this time of year and O2 offer a free pack of WHSmith Christmas Cards on their O2 Priority app.

Go to a carol service

It sounds a bit cheesy, but local churches always have a Christmas carol service on. They’ll often lure people in with a free mince pie and festive drink too! If you’re not confident in your vocals, you can always go along and watch.

Stop by your local garden centre

Garden centres are great for feeling festive because they usually have a Santa’s grotto at Christmas. While this is one for families, they also have amazing displays and lots of festive items up for grabs if you want to spend an afternoon together wandering around.

Make a list of New Year Goals

Another cheesy one to end this list! Each year, George and I have a big talk about our goals and things we’d love to do together in the New Year. Yours could be anything from travelling, moving in together, saving for a house, etc.

Even planning weekend activities to go somewhere locally you’ve always wanted to go counts!

Hopefully, I’ve inspired you to try some of these free activities and if you have any little traditions of your own, please feel free to share in the comments.

Hope you have a wonderful Christmas!
