Widilo Review: Not Just Another Cashback Site (+£5 Ref Code)

When I first heard about Widilo I thought to myself, does the world really need another cashback site? The answer is… yes!

Why? Cashback is a pretty awesome perk and in theory, you’ll get better cashback deals from all the cashback sites fighting for the best rates. Plus, Widilo has much more to offer when it comes to saving money when you shop online.

So I was more than happy to give Widilo a try to see how their rates stacked up against other cashback sites like TopCashback, Quidco, and Rakuten, to name a few.

What is Widilo?

Widilo is a cashback site, which launched in 2012 and has an impressive 5 sites and 12 discount code sites across Europe. Its main mission is to provide online customers with the best offers for their favourite retailers.

The site’s unique selling point compared with other sites is that you can double up savings by getting both cashback deals and voucher codes when you use Widilo. Plus, you can also get extra points every time you earn cashback, which can be redeemed via gift cards or products.

How does Widilo cashback work?

Widilo works similar to other cashback sites. You create a free account on their website, start searching for retailers, and click through to shop as normal. Once you’ve checked out, Widilo confirms your cashback and pays a percentage of cashback to your account.

Let’s say for example you find a cracking deal on a Shark cordless Anti Hair Wrap vacuum cleaner (that’s how exciting my life is right now!) Then you can currently get an extra 3% cashback on top.

While it might not sound like a huge saving, 3% of £199 is almost £6 off just for clicking a link.

How much can I earn?

As with every cashback site, the amount you earn on Widilo will vary based on how often you shop and what you’re buying. Widilo claim they offer an impressive amount of up to 40% cashback, plus even more using their generous discount codes. So the savings could add up quickly!

How do I get paid?

When you’ve reached the £15 payout threshold, you can cash out via PayPal or transfer the money directly into your bank account. You can also earn points, which you can trade in for gift cards with selected retailers or exciting prizes.

How do I withdraw my cashback on Widilo?

To withdraw your money, simply log into your account either on a desktop or mobile device and tap ‘withdraw my earnings’ to receive your money into your account. If you haven’t added any payment details yet, you’ll be prompted to do so.

This button will only be green if you have reached the £15 threshold, otherwise it will remain greyed out and won’t be clickable.

How long does it take to get cashback from Widilo?

Widilo claim your cashback will show up on your account within 48 hours, and Widilo claim you’ll get cashback in 30 days on average. In some cases, though, it can take up to 90 days.

But here’s the deal, it takes a while to get paid from any cashback site and Widilo, unfortunately, is no exception.

As you can see, I got cashback at Dunelm on 5th June and had to wait over two months to get my 21p from Widilo. So just to manage your expectations, as it can take several weeks to get paid.

Once you’ve reached the threshold, Widilo state that cashback payment requests are processed within 15 days. Once your payment request has been validated, it can take up to 5 working days for the payment to appear in your bank account. PayPal account payments are instant.

How do I get cashback from gift cards?

You can earn even more cashback when you purchase gift cards for specific brands via Widilo’s website. They currently have 44 retailers available, including M&S, IKEA, Boots, Primark, John Lewis, Deliveroo, and loads more to choose from.

The amount of cashback you’ll receive ranges between 2%-20% depending on which retailer you’re purchasing a gift card for.

I think this is such a good idea! Especially if you’re planning on buying a gift card from these retailers as a gift for someone anyway. Even if you’re just shopping at your local supermarket, getting cashback for buying a gift card in advance can definitely help you save money.

How does Widilo’s loyalty scheme work?

Widilo rewards loyalty and whenever you get cashback via their site, you earn bonus points. The more cashback you earn, the more your status will go up and you can reach Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum status. These can then be exchanged for gifts or gift cards through the Widilo shop.

What is Widilove?

Widilove is a part of the website where you can actually get cashback without making any purchases. How?! I hear you ask. Turns out it’s quite easy.

You simply create a link to a product on a website, share the link with your mates, and if any of them purchase said product, you get a cash bonus.

Widilo vs TopCashback and Quidco

As TopCashback and Quidco are the major players in the world of cashback, I always do a quick comparison to see how another site stacks up. Here are the cashback rates available at some of the most popular brands across these sites:

As you can see, it matches most of the more established cashback sites and sometimes even pips them at the post. Obviously there are exceptions for big offers like Just Eat cashback, where Widilo was probably unlikely to secure the same cashback promotion than the others.

I’ve noticed both TopCashback and Quidco often share the same schedule with certain deals and they’re likely to be running the same higher cashback rates very close together, if not at the same time.

This leaves little league cashback sites like Widilo out of the running, but it’s always good to check just on the off chance they might offer more cashback, like you can see with John Lewis.

My Widilo review:

In terms of cashback, Widilo certainly hasn’t re-invented the wheel and it is just your typical cashback site. That being said, its other elements like earning cashback from friend’s purchases and offering bonus points for cashback earnings does make it more interesting and appealing to use.

What I like about Widilo

• Widilo’s cashback rates hold up against more established cashback sites
• Decent selection of retailers available
• They have a cashback reminder browser extension and an app too
• Easy sign in options e.g. via Gmail or Facebook accounts
• You don’t have to click into the retailer page, the offer appears instantly on the search bar
• The site offers promo discount codes as well as cashback
• You can share links to products with friends and family and earn cashback when they buy something too
• Their loyalty scheme offers bonus cashback on top of whatever you earn
• You can earn more by purchasing gift cards and leaving reviews

What I don’t like about Widilo

• It takes a long time to track and payout
• The payout threshold is high
• Widilo’s referral scheme payout is low (£3 per referral) compared to other sites
• You have to have confirmed cashback before you can refer anyone
